Yoga

Materialism has come out as an outstanding phenomenon in last half of twentieth century. This as obvious consequence helped to grow a society filled with sheer tension.

The perception of life from the choice of food, dress to scheduling and balancing between work and leisure has changed, fully. In this period of utter confusion it’s imperative to become familiar with a practice which would be offering a perception wholly different.

Nothing other then Yoga could provide such an outlook. As a 5000 year old practice it has undergone the necessary time—testing. According to Sanskrit, an ancient language of the India, it slackly means merging of physical body and the mind

This would take the physical existence as the expression of mind in certain terms. Accordingly the chemistry of one’s organs has their foundation in the genetic structure inherited from parents. The non-physical harmonizing and balancing powers are the mind functions influencing and controlling physical life processes. For example metabolism and catabolism followed by anabolism.

Therefore function of mind is the physical existence of body.

For following it’s necessary to pursue one interpretation. While there are plenty it’s more important to realize that one of ‘the mind over body’. The awareness should be the appreciation and the practice of Yoga is central to whole physical world.

With the help of Patanajali, an ancient sage in India in the 3rd century BC the theory of ‘mind over body’ was born. Patanajali the founder father of Yoga, as he is called was an adept physician and philosopher, as well.

The observations, literature, teachings followed by the practices constitute the root of the Yoga. Thus it’s called the ancient science of well being.

It reiterates the fact that living creature isn’t a complete being while in himself, only. The capability is far more. For example, self—healing when stricken by disorder or disease and achieving much more, as well all through the mind’s positive action.

It’s important to remind that it didn’t happen in over a few decades or centuries. According to the old Indian scriptures it’s practiced early from the recorded human civilization of over 5000 years. At that time it was a flourishing science of self healing and salvation. According to Yoga the salvation is the liberation from the miseries of life. These miseries include physical as well as mental.

Yoga hasn’t evolved as a painkiller with an effect of short term. It is defined as the features of permanence, the eternal liberation.

The practicing of Yoga mandates an ideal way for life. The treatise is a splendidly colossal work on the experiments which were conducted through several centuries. These are practices in concordant with nature that ensured a blissful life.

Ayurveda

Ayurveda like Yoga is another rich practice having its origin in the long past. The origin of this ancient system of Indian medicine is veiled in Indian mythology and history. In Sanskrit 'Ayu' means age and 'Veda' a treatise. Thus the word Ayurveda would mean a treatise on longevity.

The literature related to Ayurveda developed through innumerable written works. These were written and compiled by erudite authors who contributed in many ways in the subject. The development of the system of medication and physical well being was born mainly for the concerted efforts of these men.

The subject is written in Sanskrit the oldest systematic language in the world. For understanding the true spirit of the subject a detailed knowledge in Sanskrit is essential.

The evidences are plenty to show that the subject remained as the conventional healing system even in thousands of years back.

For instance the excavations in ‘Kumarahar’ near Patna, the capital of the eastern Indian state of Bihar showed some crucial evidences in support of this claim. Patna, known historically as the city of ‘Pataliputra’ was a prominent city in ancient India. The excavation discovered the presence of extensive therapy centers named as ‘Arogya Vihaars’. In Sanskrit 'arogya' meaning sickness while the 'vihaar' means house therefore offering the meaning as one place where serious patients were treated.

Ayurveda recognizes five elements together known as Prithvi. These include earth, water, fire, air, and sky. These according to Sanskrit are Aapa, Jala, Teja, Vayu, and Akasha, respectively. These are known as the fundamental elements of the physical world or the ‘panchabhootas’. Everything is considered to be the product of various compounds of these elements. It’s the prevalence of one over the other that decides the matter’s nature in physical world.

As the memorization process before ‘writing’ was discovered, was rhymed verses a substantial portion in Ayurveda is written in such. Most of the ancient Indian literature followed this style and was passed on to next generation thus.

According to the specializations there are different branches like Manava ayurveda, Pashu ayurveda and Vriksha ayurveda. Accordingly the first section deals with man since the words 'manava' means 'man' according to Sanskrit. Likewise the Pashu ayurveda is for animals and Vriksha ayurveda is for the plants, shrubs, and trees as the meaning of 'pashu' is 'animal and 'vrisksha' is plants, shrubs, and trees in the Sanskrit.
