Spare parts dealers the gateway to road accidents

The Kaduna state Spare Parts Association of Nigeria has passed a law to regulate the sales of fake spare parts, stating that statistics haves proven that 45% of road accident are caused by counterfeit spare parts by spare parts dealers.

The Chairman of Kaduna state Spare Parts Association and the Salikin Yaki to the Governor of Kaduna state Arc. Namadi Muhammad  Sambo, Alh. Yahaya Ibrahim sad, “The increase of road accident have been a great challenge to us as thousands of lives are lost on daily basis, so, to find a solution we embark on a research  which have proven that 45% of road accident are caused by fake spare parts.

In an interview with Nigerian Tribune Alh. Yahaya Ibrahim said “The spare parts dealers have no value for human lives; they import much of fake spare part and less of the original, instead of them to let the buyers know the difference between the original and the  sub-standard parts they just sale fake spare parts in place of the original.  They are just after money making and by so doing they become the gate way to road accident because by the time one is on the high and those parts fail it leads to road accident and unfortunate death.”

“To put an end to this menace we have passed a law in Kaduna state regulates the rate of import and sale of fake products. These law states that no spare parts dealer must sale fake spare parts that have to deal with the brake, the stealing, tire, the gear front and back wheels, fan belt etc because the areas are the parts that when they fail it take a lot of lives.”

Alh. Yahaya Ibrahim further added, “The price difference between the original and the sub-standard spare parts is much that sometimes the buyers prefer the sub-standard one to the original. The spare parts dealers must tell the buyers that this is original and that is fake and should also indicate in the receipt that the buyers bought a sub-standard products.“

“We formerly advised the buyers to go with mechanic to buy the spare parts but our findings have proven that when a car owner asks a mechanics to buy the parts since they know the original and the fake. Instead of the mechanic to buy the original brake pads to N5000 the mechanics went ahead to buy for the fake one for N1000 from the spare parts dealers in order to make money and fix the fake parts in the car without the consent of the car owner. So, we now advice the car owners to ask the mechanic to list the parts he needed in fixing the car and let the car owners go and buy them themselves directly from the spare parts dealers.

2. We have sent SSS and police to the areas to monitor and arrest anyone fund selling fake or sub-standard parts.”
